Description
A scaled down version of Magakis’ Steel and Layered Bronze Cantilevered Console, this smaller model retains the visual power of the original design while reflecting the sculptor’s distinct approach to creating bold and dense geometric forms that exude a Modernist elegance and buoyancy. At once a functional object and a work of art, the console is designed to suggest weightlessness while retaining a muscular visual power. The dynamic relationship between the lightness of the console’s cantilevered forms and its sturdy, dense materials creates an ideal aesthetic equilibrium.
Inspired by Constructivism and Frank Lloyd Wright’s cantilevered rooms, Gary Magakis channels architectural elements in his work. Though initially the console’s geometric forms appear sharp, they are actually gracefully curvilinear. Magakis’ unique sculptural furniture was featured in the Financial Times’ How to Spend It in April of 2015.
As the artist works on a commission basis, custom dimensions and finishes may be accommodated.
