OTTRA
Zimmerman Workshop was established in 2010 by husband-and-wife team Adam and Sofia Zimmerman. While working on architecture and design projects throughout Manhattan, Brooklyn, and as far away as Houston and Toronto, they explored furniture design and began offering custom designs as part of their services. In 2016, they formally launched Ottra by Zimmerman Workshop, and now handcraft furniture for residential, hospitality, and corporate interiors. Like Zimmerman Workshop’s architectural projects, the organic-yet-elegant furniture reflects commitment to technical rigor, meticulous detailing, quality construction, and a softened contemporary aesthetic.
The Zimmermans ventured into the furniture world after they designed a conference table for their own office, which was fabricated by a local woodworker. With its catenary legs, the table was based on a kitchen island they originally designed for a client. They never thought it would go much further than that, but this process paved the way for new ideas, and within a year, they brought their nine-piece Catenary Collection to market, first at the Architectural Digest Design Show, then BKLYN Designs and ICFF.
All of the furniture is designed and made in Ot/tra’s own Brooklyn facility, not far from where Sofia and Adam live with their two children, Otto and Petra (and the inspiration behind the company name). Because production is in-house, they have much more freedom to explore customization options with their clients. They also like that they can be absolutely certain that each product meets their high standards.
