On a 1954 trip to Europe, Americans Martha and Ted Nierenberg saw cutlery on desplay by artist-designer Jens Quistgaard. Later they tracked down Jens and eventually convinced him it could be massed produced. Beginning in 1974, Dansk Design (also Dansk International Designs) was an American distributor and retailer for tablewares, cookware and other home accessories. The company was based out of Mount Kisco NY and is currently owned by the Lenox Corporation of Bristol, Pennsylvania. Dansk tablewares home accessories and design remain popular worldwide.
