This piece is part of The Widdicomb Modern Originals Flexi-Unit series (initially known as the Horizontal Vertical Sectional Modern series), a series that was made by Widdicomb but not designed by T.H. Robsjohn Gibbings. It was conceived by C.G. Kimerly, a freelance designer from Jackson, Michigan, who sold the plans to Widdicomb in the Fall of 1940. The line debuted in March 1941 at Marshall Fields in Chicago, Illinois. It was in production for nearly a full decade, 1941 to 1950.
