Memphis design is work from the Memphis Group, an Italian design group founded by Ettore Sottsass in 1982 known for it's postmodern furniture, fabrics, ceramics, glass and objects. The group designed from 1981 to 1988 and often incorporated abstraction, asymmetrical shapes and colorful decorations. Members include: Ettore Sottsass, Martine Bedin, Nathalie du Pasquier, Peter Shire, Matteo Thun, Andrea Branzi, Marco Zanini, George Sowden and Aldo Cibic. Designers from all over the world created Memphis style or Memphis inspired furniture and decorative items as a result of this movement. Memphis Group furniture style design and decorative vistion remain popular today.
