Description
A very fine writing table in rosewood with boxwood line inlay with a gilt tooled black leather writing surface, extensively applied with finely cast and chased gilt brass decoration, on gilt lions paw casters and with a gilt gallery.
The superb quality of the mounts and the cedar linings to the two drawer strongly point to an attribution to John McLean (active 1770-1825).
This table was illustrated in M. Harris & Sons, Centenary Book 1968, page 106. The catalog was published in 1968 to celebrate the prominent London dealer's 100th anniversary and illustrated the major pieces they had handled over the years.
Provenance: M. Harris & Sons London, 1968 or before. -
