Pair of Italian 1930’s Neoclassical white ceramic vases with lid, decorated with ‘strigilature’ (decoration with wavy grooves or spiral fluting reminiscent of the shape of the strigil, carved on the surface of marbles, such as baccellature, sarcophagi, vases and decorative elements of antiquity). The shape, proportion and style reminiscent of classical Roman antique vases, circa 1st century AD. as seen in the Vatican Museum, Rome. (pictured herein). Inscribed on the underside G. Taliaferri. Possibly from a small ceramics studio, Ravenna, circa 1930’s.
