Description
A vintage sterling silver brooch from the workshop of Hector Aguilar (1905-1986) in Taxco, Mexico circa 1940s. The double V design featured on this brooch was inspired by indigenous Mexican symbolism for fertility. Hallmarked on the back as shown. It measures 2.5"w x 1.8"h
The traditional art of Aztec and Mixtec were reflected in many of the Hector Aguilar's designs. Hector Aguilar is one of the best known Mexican silversmith originally trained and worked for William Spratling and later established his own practice. -
