French Early 19th Century Brass and Tôle Bouillotte Lamp
-
Description
This beautifully aged brass, three-light bouillotte lamp with hunter green and gilt-trimmed tôle shade and galleried base, c. 1830’s, was found in France. Bouillotte, a card game, similar to poker, was wildly popular in France during the 18th and 19th centuries. It was so popular that the French developed this candle-burning lamp specifically for use during bouillotte. The metal shade is adjustable to be raised or lowered to shield players’ eye from the glaring light. The dished base not only catches dripping wax, but is also used for storing game chips. Cleaned and wired for US according to UL standards.
