Biscuit (Bisque) Porcelain Rhyton Vase, Late 19th c.

$ 1,800
  • Description
    Biscuit (bisque) porcelain rhyton, the vase with a gadrooned edge and neoclassical decoration issuing from a boar's head which is balanced by an acanthus leaf on a molded drum; the plinth with draped putti reclining on swags, the ends with wreaths.

    The plinth measures 9.5" long x 4" deep x 3.25" high.
    The top of the vase measures 8" diameter
    Overall height is 12"

    Unidentified blue crown and script mark. The manufacturer of this vase is a bit of a mystery. The mark is puzzling because it doesn't appear in any of the standard reference books on porcelain marks. The French made a wide variety of Rhyta in both Paris and Limoges, but it's probably not French as they rarely used a crown in their marks. Many German factories used a crown in their marks, so it probably comes from that region.
