Description
Late Edo period, c.1800 painting of two falcons with silk knotted tethers resting on perches. Japanese falconry, or takagari, was a sport of aristocrats such as nobles and samurai and was most popular during the 13th to 15th centuries. Ink on paper mounted on gold with gold flecks, a hand painted checkerboard pattern, and a silk brocade border. Painting is c. 1800, mounted on board in the past 20 years.
