Description
Beautiful and rare pair of 19th century, Rosso Antico marble grand tour columns depicting the Roman Triumphal columns in Rome. The columns of Trajan and Marcus Aurelius describe the epic wars between the Romans and Dacians (101–102 and 105–106) and the triumph of the Romans over the Marcomanni, Quadi and Sarmatians in the year 176. Their design have inspired numerous victory columns, both ancient and modern. The triumphal columns of Trajan and Marcus Aurelius were erected in Rome in AD119 and 193 respectively. Beginning in the 19th century they became a popular subject for grand tour souvenirs destined for the wealthy travelers visiting.
