Description
A William IV rosewood partners’ library table by Gillows, the rectangular flame-veneered top with rounded corners and gadrooned edging, the frieze with two disguised drawers on either side, English, c1830.
See Susan E Stuart ‘Gillows of Lancaster and London, 1730-1840,’ Antique Collectors’ Club, Woodbridge, 2008, Vol. I, p.292, pl. 311, for a very similar rosewood table impressed GILLOWS LANCASTER. This popular design was illustrated in the 28 December 1827 Estimate Sketch Books but shows a standard, but smaller, two-drawer table with both -
