Primary Wood: Mahogany
Secondary Woods: Spruce, Fruitwood (by microanalysis)
Reference: This pair is nearly identical, including the red velvet and silver thread lining in the interior, to a set of boxes at the Metropolitan Museum of Art made for the Stuyvesant family. Please see Morrison Heckscher, American Furniture in The Metropolitan Museum of Art; Late Colonial Period: The Queen Anne and Chippendale Styles, pages 313-315, number 203.
This pair retains much of what may be its original knives and forks. -
