Baroque niche painted in dark blue with secondary colors of gold, violet and pink. Dates to early to mid-18th century and features built-in open cupboard (bowfat). Dutch or Portuguese in origin with a marvelous sculptural quality. Interior dome features original painted shell motif and embellishments. Hand carved scalloped-edge shelving includes plate rail contouring along its interior. Ready for installation or, with minimal modification, this niche can serve as a free standing storage or display piece.
