This stunning pair of Art Deco Machine Age end tables or nightstands were realized in the United States circa 1935. They feature skyscraper style walnut tops (with black lacquer banding) whose grain has been bookmatched to create a stunning repeating chevron pattern; streamlined and reeded sides and black lacquer details throughout. The base is a rectangular form with rounded streamlined corners circumscribed in black lacquer with four ball feet in the same material. Connecting the base and top is a fluted Doric column-form (an ode to Classical Greek design which represented a predominant influence throughout the Art Deco period). The Central compartment- bookmatched to create recurring diamond motifs in walnut- has a chrome ball pull which opens to reveal a storage compartment within. These end tables/nightstands embody the clean, forward looking design that discerning collectors of Machine Age Art Deco absolutely adore. They would be a winning addition to any style of interior from Classic deco to contemporary. Mint restored condition.
