Park Avenue Winter
-
Description
In this work by Wiggins, New York City is again shown with snowy streets, snowy cars and with American Flags on full display. What is different here is that Wiggins paints Park Avenue. We are looking south from perhaps 59th street and it's noteworthy to state the view is without the iconic PanAm building. Construction started on the Pan Am building in 1959.
It's the absence of Pan Am (now Met Life building ) which adds additional charm to Wiggins capturing old New York. Having worked on Park Avenue for many years, I can't forget the view but I also can't remember this view of Park Avenue in other paintings that were pre-PanAm. Oil on canvas board
