Rockface Edge Red Travertine Stone top coffee table with 24 carat gold leaf coffee table. This rare red travertine stone top coffee table was handcrafted in Italy. The natural red travertine top was rockfaced so that a natural, irregular but polished edge was left on all sides, giving it a very organic, natural feel. Coffee table legs were made of forged iron to support the weight and hand gilded with 24 carat gold leaf. The result is a dramatic piece that combines very rich textures and contrasting elements. Rockfacing is a hand-crafted process achieved by a skilled craftsman who chisels the top and bottom of a stone face or edge with the intention of creating a textured, 3D look. The end result enhances the natural beauty of the stone by highlighting its intricacies and giving it a rough appearance. This Italian coffee table is on display at the Gallery at 200 Lex at the New York Design Center.
