Abraham Lincoln

American
Abraham Lincoln was the 16th President of the United States, serving from 1861 until his assassination in 1865. Born in Kentucky in 1809, Lincoln moved to Illinois as a young man and eventually became a lawyer and a politician.

In 1860, Lincoln was elected president, running on a platform that opposed the expansion of slavery in the United States. His election prompted several southern states to secede from the Union, leading to the start of the American Civil War in 1861.

As president, Lincoln led the Union through the Civil War and played a key role in ending slavery in the United States with the Emancipation Proclamation in 1863. He is also known for his stirring speeches, including the Gettysburg Address, which he delivered in 1863 at the dedication of a national cemetery for soldiers killed in the Battle of Gettysburg.

Lincoln's leadership and determination during the Civil War have made him one of the most revered figures in American history. He is widely considered one of the greatest American presidents, and his legacy continues to inspire people around the world.
