PAIR IRISH PEAT BUCKETS IRISH 1795

Price Upon Request
  • Description
A most beautiful and rare pair of Irish Late Eighteenth early Nineteenth Century Mahogany and Brass Bound Peat Buckets in a very natural patinated original state, and not newly repolished condition. There is some shrinkage to the joined lateral planking which is held safely together by the original secure brass bands.

Of note is the unusual graduation from top to bottom of precise tapering reeding ( ribbing) with the extra adornment of one large triple reeded brass band. This is a most unusual feature , as the norm is to be plain flat brass with untappering ribbing. Another feature, is the heavy duty brass handle with an exagerated grip to its centre.
The ribbiing, a feature that seems to be particularly common in Ireland is unusually fine and delicate, creating a different and most elegant object of furniture, setting these buckets apart from the hundreds of other.

Beware ....." peat buckets are probably the most reproduced item of Irish Furniture" due to their ccollectibility

Literature See Irish Furniture The Knigh of Glin and James Peill, page 257 for examples of other common style buckets.
