Description
A carved wood sculpture titled The Acrobats signed Robert Hogan 1938. This work was created during the WPA or Works Progress Administration. The WPA was formed in 1935 by the US government to provide paid jobs to the unemployed during the great depression. It was very hard to for artists to sell there work during that time. The WPA Federal Project Number One employed artists, writers, actors & approved creative people, it ended it's support in 1939. This very modernist sculpture is carved from a hard wood possibly cherry, it is in very good condition with minor scuffs & dirty marks. It has a painted WPA serial number & carved signature at the back near the base. Dated & named under the base.
