Rubén Fuentes

Cuban, 1980
Rubén Fuentes, born in 1980 in Cuba, is a Paris-based artist who has also spent significant time in Spain. He began his academic journey at the Fine Arts Institute of Havana, ultimately earning a Master's degree and a Ph.D. from the University of Valencia.
Fuentes is known for his striking artistic style, which has garnered acclaim both in France and internationally. His works are included in notable public collections such as the Museum of Hunting and Nature in Paris, the Confucius Institute, and various institutions across the United States, Cuba, Switzerland, and Spain.
Since 2004, Fuentes has actively participated in a range of solo and group exhibitions in France, Spain, Switzerland, Cuba, the UK, China, and the United States. He has maintained a collaborative relationship with Galerie Dumonteil since 2016.
His art presents a unique bestiary, rooted in a fantastical realm where familiar forms are reimagined with rich, vibrant textures, exuding an aura of tranquility. While his animal subjects may possess an ethereal quality, the trees depicted in his works convey profound messages, inviting viewers to "learn from my silence; everything lasts and everything is ephemeral."
In the face of Fuentes's powerful creations, indifference is not an option. His exhibitions elevate animal subjects into significant events, emphasizing the interconnectedness of humanity and nature. As he articulates, "My works feature an extending tree, a forest that covers everything... the wild world triumphs over the civilized world... a realm where nature reclaims her role as heroine, and where the human figure, like a small insect, is barely perceptible amid the grandeur of the landscape."
