Charles Hascoët (b. 1985) is a French artist based between New York City and Paris. He studied at the École des Beaux-Arts de Paris, where he graduated in 2014. During his time there, he refined his painting skills under the guidance of notable teachers, including J. Rielly and J. Michel Alberola.
Since completing his studies, Hascoët has showcased his work in numerous solo exhibitions, including at DUMONTEIL in Shanghai (2021, 2024), Galerie Mighela Shama in Geneva (2021, 2023), Superzoom Gallery in Paris (2022), and New Galerie in Paris (2021). His art has also been featured in prestigious institutions such as the Musée Picasso in Paris and the MO.CO. in Montpellier, both in 2023. His works are part of significant collections, including the X Museum in Beijing and the TAG Museum in Qingdao, China.
Hascoët’s artistic practice draws inspiration from art history, iconic films, and childhood memories, crafting nostalgic scenes that blur the lines between reality and imagination. He combines disparate symbols into domestic still lifes, romantic portraits, and dreamlike landscapes, weaving together fantastical narratives. His works pay homage to the reclining figures of master French painters like Gustave Courbet and Eugène Delacroix, while also incorporating autobiographical elements, inviting viewers into his unique worlds. By merging historical references with personal iconography, Hascoët engages in a process of self-discovery, exploring both his own identity and our shared histories.
In addition to his visual art, Hascoët is known for his DJ practice, where he shares his extensive and eclectic vinyl collection in clubs, bars, and concert halls across Europe and beyond, alongside numerous radio broadcasts.
