Dutch School Oil Painting, Seascape Genre Scene
-
Description
This lowcountries seascape is a pleasing fishing genre scene at the edge of the sea. Sailboats are in the distance, while one is being drawn close to the shore to unload the day's catch. There is a pulley system bringing in the fishing boat. Several figures are at work with the project. Sun is breaking through a clouded sky, with two birds flying over the water. There is an illegible, unidentified signature on the lower left side, as seen in the photographs.
The painting has evidence of craquelure, but it is in good condition. The ornate frame was heavily gilded at one time, but is now a mellow gold underpainting. It is in good condition structurally and was probably original to the painting. The size of the painting itself is 12.25"W x 7"W. The overall measurements including the frame are listed above. -
