Fine Antique Indian Botanic Handmade Wool Rug

$ 18,000
  • Description
    The importance of rugs in  Indian culture is undeniable. Availability of materials such as dyes and fiber made the creation of Indian rugs much easier in the South Asia than anywhere else. As a result, weavers were able to develop their craft freely and antique Indian rugs they made were omnipresent in the life of everyday people.  Very often used as floor covering during important meetings or family gatherings, this type of antique area rug is easily foldable and light, which makes transporting it extremely easy, comparing to other varieties. Nowadays we can freely appreciate the beauty of flat-woven Indian rugs, while remembering their role in the country's culture.
    This stunning Indian rug is a fine example from the Doris Leslie Blau Gallery's collection. Woven in the early 20th century, circa 1900, this antique rug immediately draws the attention with its stunning pattern and vibrant colors. The main field features an all over design of palmette, flowering vine and serrated leaf trellis, framed by a rosette and angular vinery border. The palette accompanying this composition contains mostly jewel tones such as red and blue. However, a watchful eye can spot a bit of magenta, light gray and chocolate brown as well.
    The size of this antique Indian rug, 11'2" × 16'11" (340 × 516 cm) makes it a great addition to spacious interiors, especially those which yearn for a bit of classic elegance. Everything in this antique rug, from colors to pattern, was created in order to ensure your upmost satisfaction.
