Authentic 1900s Large Persian Sultanabad Red Handmade Wool Rug (Size Adjusted)
-
Description
Outstanding and well-balanced design-wise, this antique Persian rug is a genuine treasure of the Orient. It is also a paragon of the remarkable Sultanabad rug craftsmanship which has been honed since the early 18th century.
The main field of the carpet is occupied by an allover botanical grid with subtle florals. This thriving richness is enclosed within a series of borders kept in a similar vein with further stylized florals, palmettes and meandering flowering climbers. The contrasting, traditional color palette adds even more character to the design without taking away its class. The prevailing red combined with beige, brown and blue create a playful yet proud composition. This antique Sultanabad rug will seamlessly match a wide array of décors, bringing in warmth, flair and a great deal of elegance.
As befits antique rugs from Persia, this one is distinguished by excellent workmanship. It was carefully knotted by hand of supreme wool thanks to which it looks unscathed despite being over one hundred years old. Under the condition of proper maintenance, its owners may rest reassured that the antique carpet will serve many years without any signs of wear, filling the space with a breath of history and recherché charm. -

Founded in 1965, Doris Leslie Blau’s rug emporium is the stuff of design legends. For decades it was known as the go-to source for those seeking the best in the unusual antique and avant-garde. Now owned by Nader Bolour, to whom Doris turned over the business, the gallery has not only continued the tradition of carrying the best of antique and vintage pieces, but has also forged ahead to create unique and innovative contemporary and custom rugs as well.
