Vintage Zuni mosaic-style ring of the Disney character Goofy

mosaic inlay of mother of pearl, yellow clam shell, green turquoise, onyx, spandela shell (spiny oyster), sterling silver

Very minor wear is apparent on the stones, (on one of Goofy’s legs and one of his shoes. The wear is visible in the photo. Everything appears to be very stable).

This ring is part of a group of Zuni-made rings of Disney cartoon characters that we recently purchased from a private collection. These rings are quite rare. The skill of the Zuni lapidaries who made them is apparent.

The rings are not signed and they are earlier than the ones that are generally offered to the public. I have erred on the side of caution in dating them to the 1960s-1970s but the argument can be made that they were made earlier.
