Description
Resting bed, known as "diwan" or "daybed", in solid teak and cotton cloth. The rectangular base is upholstered with a beige cotton cloth. Short leg assembly affixed under the body, made up of two "compass"-type tapered, slanted legs, connected by two crosspieces. This very rare daybed by Pierre Jeanneret was created for the city of Chandigarh in India, the utopian city designed by his cousin Le Corbusier. Its minimalist and pure shape create a raw simplicity. Jeanneret’s designs stand out for their essential forms and simple materials, a balance between modern European ideals and traditional Indian spirit.
This piece was part of the furniture in Chandigarh's administrative buildings, private homes and Punjab Secretariat Administration. It’s a rare design, highly sought after by collectors and design aficionados. A true collector's item in excellent original condition. The two rolled cushions are included. - More Information
