Small Triangle Transience Mirror

$ 1,300
  • Description
    Over time dark spots start to appear on mirrors. The silver layer is slowly oxidizing under the influence of oxygen and water, thereby showing some of its history. This process can be regarded as degradation, however this project shows the beauty of this material transition of silver. The Transience Mirrors designed by Lex Pott and David Derksen reveal different states of oxidation through an accelerated process. All mirrors are handmade and the oxidation patterns look slightly different on each piece. This roughness in oxidation and the clean geometrical aesthetics make each design mirror truly unique and beautiful.

    ‘Creating objects is like playing with the forces of nature on scale.’
    The natural sciences and specifically the characteristics of materials are David Derksen’s main sources of inspiration. The behaviour of materials and their processing and construction methods are the main focus of his work. In his designs he tries to express the beauty of materials and the way objects are made.

    David Derksen graduated in 2009 at the Design Academy Eindhoven and completed his MSc degree in 2011 at Industrial Design TU Delft. During his studies he started his studio in Rotterdam where he works on new lighting, furniture and other interior products. He alternates between industrial design and more experimental projects where he is pushing the boundaries of materials. David Derksen works on self initiated projects as well as commissioned ones.

    Since 2011 the studio presents itself every year at the Salone del Mobile in Milan. The studio collaborates with Dutch and international furniture brands and galleries. In 2015 David Derksen has been nominated for the Young Designer Award as part of the Dutch Design Awards. Currently he is a guest teacher at Master Industrial Design at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague. In 2019 he started to work as a creative director for WL Ceramics, a porcelain manufacturer. In 2021 he started his own lighting collection [ARRAY]. Toghether with other founding partners, a new Dutch lighting brand Atelier Artiforte has been launched in 2022.
