Large Mexican Cedar Mortar Carved Aged Wood Glass Top Table Mexico, 1940s
-
Description
Large Mexican Cypress mortar shaped from a single piece cut from the trunk of a large tree.
From the faded color of the wood and the loss of paint and the losses to the sides and top edges I would guess it is old maybe 80+ years.
The weathered surfaces, the voids, the worm holes and the skillful carved arcs that shape the four corners add to its overall appeal.
The piece is stamped made in Mexico on one side.
While there are open separations the mortar is solid and functional.
Overall an interesting piece. -
