Cantilever Lounge Chair nr. 31 by Alvar Aalto - 1930's
-
Description
The Cantilever Lounge Chair nr. 31 was designed by Finnish architect Alvar Aalto in the 1930s for the Paimio Sanatorium, and produced by Huonekalu-ja Rakennustyotehdas company in Turku, Finland. This armchair is an early example made of plywood with laminitated birch. It’s a real icon in plywood design history. Characteristic features of this Scandinavian Modern design are the curved structure and the floating back silhouette. The bent backrest and seating show the beauty of the birchwood. The simplicity of the lines, combined with its remarkable woodworking and craftsmanship, will allow this armchair to bring a touch of authenticity to any home. The sculptural coffee table is available in another listing.
