Israel, c.1930

Made by the renowned and acclaimed Bezalel Academy in Jerusalem, Israel's pre-eminent school of arts and design, this fine Judaica piece is a brass menorah, made in the early years of the twentieth century, before the modern state of Israel itself. It features a central scene which depicts the act of lighting the menorah itself, with animal and floral motifs in the flanking panels, combining Persian, Classical and modern design elements. Eight candle mounts are set along the base at the front with a ninth along the side. It is inscribed with a prayer in the centre and marked for Bezalel Jerusalem along the base.
