Anton Bakker is a Canadian contemporary artist born in the Netherlands in 1960. He studied at the Emily Carr College of Art and Design in Vancouver and has exhibited his work extensively in Canada, the United States, and Europe.
Bakker's work is characterized by its minimalist aesthetic and attention to detail. He often works with industrial materials such as steel, concrete, and glass, and his sculptures and installations explore themes such as space, light, and perception. Bakker's work is often site-specific, and he has created installations for a variety of locations, from galleries and museums to public spaces and corporate offices.
In addition to his sculpture and installation work, Bakker is also an accomplished printmaker, creating intricate and delicate prints using traditional techniques such as etching, aquatint, and mezzotint. His prints often explore the same themes as his three-dimensional work, such as space, light, and perception.
Bakker's work is held in numerous private and public collections, including the National Gallery of Canada, the Art Gallery of Ontario, and the Museum of Modern Art in New York. He has received several awards and grants throughout his career, including the prestigious Canada Council for the Arts Victor Martyn Lynch-Staunton Award in 2001.
