Description
Large beautifully colored oil on canvas of a high ranking military or government official. The name is inscribed at the bottom. (See images) Signed and dated Paolo Caliari (1753-1835) Date "marouffle" as in repaired on reverse of canvas. Gorgeous detailed braid on the shoulders, medals and medallions. A dignified gentleman with a handlebar moustache.

Creator: Paolo Caliari. Caliari, a descendant of Paola Veronese Caliari, was a pupil of Prospero Schiavi, who was himself a pupil of Giambettino Cignaroli. He painted portraits and frescoes and made copies of old masters.
