Bertel Gardberg stool model “Sauna” in pine for Villa Joukhi, Finland 1950s
-
Description
This beautiful "Sauna" stool was designed by Bertel Gardberg for Villa Joukhi in Finland in the 1950s. The seat is concavely sanded in a very refined way. On the edge we see a beautiful interplay of lines that is so characteristic of pine and the different color shades of this wood type provide an interesting spectacle. The three legs are inserted through the seat and secured with a traditionally made connection. The detail of this connection is truly sublime. A combination has been made of the flat surface of the pine legs and it is then held in place by a wedge of wengé. The warm patina and pleasant proportions make this stool a real feast for the eyes. Its condition is very good and apart from a single superficial scratch in the wood and a stain on the edge, this stool has withstood the test of time very well. One of the top connections has been professionally restored. Although we love the patina on this cabinet, upon request the goatskin leather can be repainted.
