Monumental English Ebonised Bookcase / Display Cabinet
Provenance: Huge original shop fittings from the former Co-operative Society building, Swadlincote, Derbyshire, England, UK.
The former Midland Co-op, in West Street, was built on the remains of a circular bottle kiln on land which was formerly part of Sharpe’s Pottery - which is still situated opposite. By 1832 Sharpe’s Pottery was established on both sides of West Street. Only the south side complex survives; the site of the northern works was sold to the Burton-on-Trent Co-operative Society in 1915 following demolition in 1907. It became a key showroom for the Midland Co-operative Society.
