Description
CROCHET PLANET, is a new cast concrete cabinet, with plant relief imprints and an old crocheted tablecloth. The plants were harvested in spring 2023 and conserved for eternity on the doors of the sideboard. The cabinet ‘Crochet-Planet’ has an old, finely handmade crochet centre-piece cast on its front door, highlighting the value of hand-craft skills to be preserved for eternity, set in stone for generations. The piece is from a new collection of cast concrete cabinets and furniture by the artist Stefan Buxbaum that evoke a surprising sensation in contrast to the softness and sensibility of nature and plant specimens cast onto them.
The cupboards of Stefan Buxbaum - a casting and concrete expert - are technical feats: the corpus is cast in one piece, in a lightweight technique. For his emblematic plant models, the artist applies his chosen specimens and petrifies those paragons of beauty as permanent reliefs onto the surfaces. Suitable for outdoors.
We are reminded of the art deco era or Jugendstil, however, in new flesh, projected into the present and the future through the use of this contemporary material concrete. -
