Description
Artist unidentified, New England, ca. 1820.
Oil on canvas.
22 ½” x 26 ½”; 27 x 30 ¾” with frame.
Over-all in fine condition, wax lined mounted on new stretchers. In a period yellow painted frame.
Provenance: Collection of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Tillou; Exhibited at The William Benton Museum of Art, Storrs, Connecticut.
This rare folk art painting of two Calico Cats, probably mother and kitten, pose in front of a wonderful landscape view. This unidentified itinerant artist captures the personality and disposition of these charming cats, a characteristic loved by folk art collectors. -
