Country Chippendale Period Tripod Candlestand, Connecticut 1785

$ 1,870
  • Description
    This graceful country Chippendale period candlestand in cherrywood was hand-crafted in Connecticut around 1785. The round top sits on a baluster style pedestal which tapers to a ring and spool base joined by three snake feet with bracket drops at the thigh of each leg. There is an old, mellow refinished surface which shows some wear and sun-fading where a candlestick or lamp once stood. Underneath the top are a series of brad holes which at one point in the stand's life pierced a leather, non-original, covering. One leg was re-glued to the shaft at the dovetailed joint, but this is a very old repair and not noticeable when the stand is upright. This candlestand is sturdy and sound with a good patina. It is a charming piece of high country New England furniture in native wood.
