Leopard, Panther, Lion, Elephant, Zebra, Rhino, Peaceable Kingdom

Description
This early work by famed Chilean naive painter Gustavo Novoa features a group portrait of eight African animals looking at the viewer in sync. In my opinion, Novoa's early work in the 1970s is the artist's best work. This painting is masterfully rendered and designed with an interlocking composition. The animals stare at you and you stare back. Notice how two tree branches grow like antlers from the top of the Zebras head. Another way to look at this painting is with messianic prophecy in the book of Isaiah (11:6): “The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid; and the calf and the young lion and the fatling together. The painting is titled on verso. " The Peaceful Meeting" perhaps was the artist's loose reference to "The Peaceable Kingdom," where predators and prey lay down together in harmony.
