Handsome 19th century mahogany campaign chest on chest with military brass hardware and inset brass side handles; English circa 1850 raised on later turned feet.

Originally a portable chest of drawers used by officers on military campaigns. The units were reinforced with metal edges and corners to withstand rough traveling conditions. Today, this is a “bachelor chest,” often lacquered and embellished with metal corner strips, corner pieces, and pronounced hardware. Usually sits flush on the floor.
