Monumental French sculpture of a female figure with table by Louis Hottot
French, Late 19th Century
Height 145cm, width 51cm, depth 57cm
Cast by the renowned sculptor Louis Hottot (French, 1829-1905), this beautiful Orientalist sculpture is modelled as a full length female figure standing beside a table. The figure is dressed in typical Arabic style and is depicted with conforming jewellery that has been gilt and polychromed to add colour contrasting the figure. The table is decorated with geometric Moorish patterns in the Alhambra style.
The figure is signed L. Hottot, who was well known for his Orientalist sculptures in spelter. This one is among the largest that he would have created and is therefore very rare.
