Description
This rare set of six dining chairs was designed by the Danish designer and architect Frits Schlegel in the 1930s. This model 'Husum' chair was designed by Schlegel for the teacher's room of a school in Husum, located in the outskirts of Copenhagen. The chairs were produced by Fritz Hansen, one of the first manufacturers in Denmark to work with steam bent wood, using similar techniques as Thonet. The design is marked by the curved backrest, sculpted shape of the seat and the striking rounded lines of the lower frame. The seat and backrest are made of elm wood with a beautiful grain. The bentwood frame is made of beech wood which has been finished in a black lacquer. The combination of the different shapes and lines gives this a very dynamic and elegant appearance. The chairs are in a good condition. The chairs have been carefully restored, respecting and preserving the original patina on the wood and lacquer.
