Description
Amazing famille jaune vase with bas-relief images of dragons dancing on water & cracked ice, with floral motifs & crackle details. This is a monumental vase! Marked with the six-character kaishu of the Kangxi Period, enclosed in a double blue ring. This vase was likely produced in the early 20th Century Chinese Republic, during the early days of the Kangxi revival - not your typical blue & white vase!
16.5" H x 10" Diameter
The Kangxi period (1662-1722) was one of the most productive periods of Chinese ceramics. The Emperor Kangxi was the fourth emperor of the Qing dynasty and was considered one of China’s greatest. He sparked a period of great stability and cultural advancement; with an insatiable thirst for knowledge, he was fascinated by Western science, art, and culture. The popularity of Chinese porcelain in 19th-century Victorian interiors coupled with the Empress Dowager Cixi's fascination with the Kangxi period led to the Kangxi Revival - from Paris to San Francisco, Kangxi style porcelain was seen in all of the finest homes. -
