Markus Klinko is an acclaimed fashion and celebrity photographer whose remarkable talent has made him a prominent figure in the industry. With a portfolio featuring some of the most iconic names in film, music, and fashion, Klinko has solidified his reputation as an artist of exceptional vision and creativity.
His illustrious career includes striking portraits of stars such as Beyoncé, Lady Gaga, David Bowie, Jennifer Lopez, and many others. Notably, his campaign for Keep A Child Alive raised over one million dollars for children affected by AIDS in just three days, showcasing his commitment to impactful causes.
Born in Switzerland and enriched by a diverse heritage that includes French, Italian, Jewish, and Hungarian roots, Klinko initially pursued a career as a classical harp soloist. He trained at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique in Paris and later signed with EMI Classics. His talent earned him the Grand Prix de Disque for his harp recordings, and he performed around the world, receiving recognition in esteemed publications.
A hand injury prompted Klinko to pivot to fashion photography, marking the beginning of a new chapter in his artistic journey. During this transition, he collaborated with Indrani, who became a key figure in his studio as a digital post-production artist and photo editor.
Klinko’s unique style caught the eye of influential figures like Isabella Blow, who discovered his work at the London Sunday Times and commissioned cover stories from the emerging photographer. Around the same time, Ingrid Sischy at Interview magazine hired Klinko for various shoots. He gained further acclaim after photographing Iman and David Bowie, contributing to their respective projects, which propelled him into the spotlight.
Klinko is renowned for creating iconic album covers, including Beyoncé's Dangerously in Love and Mariah Carey's The Emancipation of Mimi. Many of Klinko's famous celebrity photographs can be seen in his coffee table book ICONS (Perseus), which has been exhibited in art galleries and museums globally, including a notable presentation at Lincoln Center in New York.
With appearances on platforms such as E! News, Access Hollywood, and CNN, Klinko has shared his insights into the world of celebrity photography. He was also featured in the Bravo reality series Double Exposure, offering viewers a glimpse into his dynamic creative process.
