Richard Hirsch has garnered global acclaim in the realm of contemporary ceramics through his diverse professional endeavors. From teaching to exhibitions, writings to lecturing, and research, Hirsch has cemented his reputation on an international scale.
 
In 1975, Hirsch co-authored the seminal book "RAKU," published by Waston-Guptill, which served as a pioneering text shedding light on the evolving innovations in Western Raku ceramics. Simultaneously, he played a pivotal role as a founding faculty member of The Program in Artisanry at Boston University. Later, in 1987, Hirsch assumed a professorship at The School for American Crafts at The Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT), where he contributed significantly to the field until his retirement. Currently, as a Professor Emeritus at RIT, Hirsch's illustrious teaching career spans over five decades.
