Léa Lafugie was a French painter born in Paris, known for her portraits and landscapes inspired by her travels. She studied at the National School of Decorative Arts in Paris and later at the Academy of Fine Arts, beginning her career by exhibiting at the Salon des Artistes Indépendants.
Passionate about travel and adventure from a young age, she decided to embark on a journey in 1924 to North Africa and then in 1925 to Asia. She stayed in India, Burma, Tibet, the Indochinese peninsula, and the Far East. Throughout these travels, she continued to paint the sights and people she encountered.
This oil painting on a wooden panel was painted during a journey to Cambodia. It depicts a young girl focused on her work. In this portrait, we can perceive a profound sense of kindness and tranquility.
