French 19th Century Longcase Painted Clock with Carved Crest and Classical Décor
-
Description
A French parcel gilt and red painted longcase grandfather clock from the 19th century, with carved crest and classical décor. Born in France during the early years of the 19th century, this long case clock features a rectangular head, adorned with a gilt crest featuring delicate scrolls supporting a petite sun. The face, secured behind a glass door, is topped with a motif echoed from the crest and presents Roman numbers on an enameled ring. Our eye is then lead to discover the delicacy of its classical décor with Diana goddess of the hunt, placed under an elegant canopy, while two birds flank the sides of a foliage-adorned vase. With its distressed patina and graceful motifs, this French 19th century grandfather clock will bring a classical touch to any home, particularly in a living room, foyer or hallway.
