Pair of Swedish Rococo Style Carved Painted Upholstered Stools, circa 1890
-
Description
A pair of Swedish Rococo style painted stools from the late 19th century with richly carved décor, cabriole legs and newly upholstered seats. Each of this pair of Scandinavian Rococo style stools features a square seat reupholstered in a double welt cotton fabric, sitting above a skirt carved on all sides with exquisite volute motifs. Four cabriole legs, marked with striking medallions on the knees, raise each stool. The C-scrolls of the skirt are beautifully echoed in the curves of the scrolled feet. The paint color, which has been refreshed, is typical of the Scandinavian taste for light colors. Combined with the elegance of the lines and skill shown in the carved decor, this pair of Swedish Rococo style stools showcases the workmanship of 19th century Swedish furniture makers.
