French 1870s Slender Majolica Vase with Floral Décor and High-Relief Cherubs
-
Description
A French Majolica vase from the second half of the 19th century, with cherubs and floral décor. Born at the end of France's last Emperor Napoleon III's reign, this exquisite vase features a soft color, beautifully accented with a décor of pink and blue garlands of flowers, that subtly progresses from painted to a low-relief. Our attention however, is immediately drawn to the three cherubs that decorate the rounded belly. Their lively attitude reminds us of the Baroque period and its strong desire to engage the spectator's imagination. The upper section flares up in an elegant movement and presents a lovely scalloping while the piece is raised on a cylindrical base. With its refined, slender Silhouette and exquisite décor, this French Majolica vase, circa 1870 will be a wonderful decorative accent in any room, perhaps placed atop a chest-of-drawers, side table or buffet.
